Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN)

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks consistent with the nurse's obligation to provide optimal care. The focus is on individual growth and development in practice with increased levels of self-direction. Ability to formulate a plan of care based on nursing assessments. They are responsible for coordinating patient care delivery to ensure the delivery of quality care per the established standards of practice, policy, and procedure. Provides patient education to assist the patient and/or family in understanding all phases of the invasive procedure process. Maintains knowledge of supplies and equipment used for various cases in the invasive procedures area. Performs the duties of recording, circulating, and monitoring patients in all phases of the invasive procedure. Seeks guidance on how to improve care provided to patients and families. Collaborates with health care professional in planning radiology patient care interventions. Delegates elements of care to the appropriate individual based upon assessed needs, condition, and safety of the patient. The nurse brings principles and theory with limited application of critical thinking skills. May be required to take call. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Cross-coverage to ATU and Pain procedures
  • Performs hemodynamic and moderate sedation monitoring, medication administration, and provides pre-and post-care to patients undergoing invasive procedures
  • Responsible for direct patient care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care and identifying outcomes for patient undergoing invasive procedures in IR.
