Utilities Field Inspector Job at a Glance

• Location: Fairmont, West Virginia
• Contract: W2 only, 24 month contract with potential for extension or conversion to full time with either the client or CEI
• Pay: $46/hr

Key Responsibilities

• Support transmission line and substation inspection programs, including foundation and repair inspections
• Oversee wood pole treatment and testing methods, steel structure coating crews, and evaluate transmission structures
• Assess storm damage and support emergency restoration crews
• Coordinate directly with field crews and contractors
• Manage own schedule and site visits
• Attend job site meetings and perform safety walkthroughs
• Complete documentation and reporting, with some WFH flexibility
• Travel within approximately 2 hours of job sites; drive own vehicle with mileage reimbursement
• Verify contractor PPE, tooling, and safety practices
• Ensure vendors follow design specifications and document work
• Coordinate contractor repairs, such as damaged towers and foundation shoring
• Review drawings and specifications from a project/work management perspective

Required Skills

• 5+ years of active field experience
• Computer skills to properly fill out daily and weekly reports
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel
• Minimum 5 years; 7 years preferred of knowledge of transmission line work, foundations, stringing of conductors, transmission substations, and facilities
• Knowledge of QA/QC inspections and reporting practices
• Knowledge of various electronics used to create reports
• Must have current and valid driver’s license
• Must be a US Citizen
• Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications and comparing them with customer or engineering standards
• Proficient in both verbal and written communication
• Ability to create detailed reports
• Travel requirement is based on project location
• Able and willing to travel in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland
• Ability to drive to job location as part of the work day
• Must be able to wear company-provided PPE for the entire shift while onsite:
  • Hard hat
  • Safety vest
  • Safety glasses
  • FR clothing
  • Steel toe boots, protective shoes, overshoes
  • Insect repellent when necessary
• Able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs or more at any given time throughout the day
• Must be able to walk up to 3+ miles per day across rough terrain and/or uneven surfaces
